A 30-year-old drove his BMW through a residential area on Sunday evening and demolished several cars.

Then he got into a fight with the police.

Essen – First he raced through the streets far too quickly in his BMW, then he messed with police officers: a 30-year-old man caused chaos in a residential area in Essen-Schonnebeck on Sunday evening (November 13).

According to the Essen police, the 30-year-old drove around 9:20 p.m. in his black 7-series BMW – a luxury model – at high speed around a block of flats on Bonifaciusstrasse.

He caused several accidents and damaged six parked cars.

Local residents eventually called the police.

Essen police: BMW racers could have consumed alcohol and drugs

When officers arrived, the driver had already left his car.

He was very upset: "His behavior suggested that he might have consumed alcohol and drugs," a spokesman for the Essen police told 24RHEIN.

The spokesman did not want to comment on whether the man had drugs with him – that is the subject of further investigations.

Essen: Four police officers injured by kicks and punches

When the police wanted to fix the man, he resisted and punched and kicked the police officers.

Only with the help of "physical force" could the officers finally tie him up, according to the police statement.

Four officers were slightly injured by the kicks and punches, they had to be treated as outpatients in the hospital.

One of the police officers was no longer able to work.

BMW driver in Essen also had injuries: "Object of the investigation"

The BMW driver was also initially treated on site as an outpatient.

“He also had injuries.

Where these come from is still being determined," said the Essen police spokesman.

For further control, the man was taken to a hospital as an inpatient, and a blood sample was taken from him.

The police seized his car.

In NRW there have recently been repeated attacks on police officers during operations, for example in Cologne at the end of September, where an 18-year-old rammed a screwdriver in the shoulder of a police officer.
