An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale hit the south of the Fiji Islands in the Pacific Ocean today.
"The quake struck at a depth of 627 km, and its initial location was determined at 26.0418 degrees south latitude and 178.2262 degrees east longitude," the Chinese news agency Xinhua quoted the US Geological Survey as saying.
Yesterday, an earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale hit the Fiji Islands, but there were no reports of casualties or material damage.
