The pocket is torn: families in Israel tell how they survive under an economic burden that only intensifies | Israel today

This is a real alarm: the families are "suffocating" under the deluge of rising prices • "Looking for cheap substitutes - and reducing expenses as much as possible"

They don't finish the month: Limor and Victor Kashkash from Netanya, married and parents of two, wonder how long this ceaseless wave of price increases will last.

"There are products in the supermarket that have gone up by as much as 30%, oil for example. When a company like Tnuva raises prices, I'm forced to look for substitutes because I can't afford these expenses," Limor says sadly.

"If in the past the expenses of our economy stood at 4,000 shekels, today we reach 5,000 shekels. Today I am looking for substitutes, unlike in the past. When the food companies recently raised the prices, I felt the need to boycott and actually buy substitutes so that the companies understand that they cannot raise the prices like that .

"It is impossible to meet the expenses."

"Also, I realized that many times these are products manufactured in the same place. Using the substitutes, I save NIS 400-300 a month, but the basket is still very high."

Limor emphasizes that the food expenses are only part of the heavy costs they have incurred recently.

"Property taxes have also become more expensive. They raise them here and there, without feeling it. Fuel has also become more expensive. When you get a small increase in your salary, you don't feel it because the taxes go up. Even car insurance has become more expensive. We have no choice and must change our lifestyle and cut back."

"Payments have skyrocketed"

Even for the Yehud family from Moshav in Koa, the economic situation is only getting worse.

"The cost of living is very noticeable and complex for us, because we have five children. The prices today are really crazy. We are dealing with the increase in the price of food products with great difficulty. Of course, we do not deprive the children of food, but we make concessions in other things, such as classes and luxuries. Not all the children go for classes, and we don't go on vacations, certainly not on vacations abroad and not in Eilat.

If we go on vacations in Israel, we are vacationing in tents.

"I feel that our expenses have increased by thousands of shekels in the last two years. This includes food, property tax, electricity, fuel and owning two vehicles for everything that implies, including insurance. There is no end to it. In terms of saving at the supermarket - obviously I buy cheap brands."
