With the theatrical performance “The Mask”, prepared and directed by Dr. Muhammad Basal, the Theatrical Left Festival, in its fourth session, kicked off this evening on the stage of the Al-Assad House of Culture in Lattakia.

The festival, which is held by the Al-Issar theatrical troupe in cooperation with the Directorates of Theatre, Music and Lattakia Culture, celebrates its fourth session of the works of the great writer Mamdouh Adwan and extends over five days, during which he presents a number of the most prominent works of the late great with the visions of a number of Syrian and Arab directors.

In addition to the opening show, the festival includes the play Mortadella directed by Kamal Qarahili, the play Stray Dog directed by Nidal Adira, the play Arrest on the Road to Hadi directed by Majd Younes Ahmed, and the play The Bitten Dog directed by Tunisian director Khaled Bou Zaid.

The festival, which chooses in each session the works of one of the Syrian playwrights to present them through seeing and reading veteran and young directors, according to festival director Nidal Adeera, comes within the framework of efforts to activate the theatrical movement and find an incentive for young people to highlight their talents by providing the opportunity for the first appearance in front of the audience in addition to presenting the works of playwrights Syrians have their mark and theatrical presence locally and in the Arab world.

And Adeira said in a statement to SANA reporter that the fourth session is distinguished, in addition to selecting theatrical scripts by a great playwright, such as Mamdouh Adwan, by the diversity in choosing theatrical dissertations, assigning them to seasoned directors, in addition to an Arab presence represented by the Tunisian theater director Khaled Bou Zaid, and a theatrical workshop for a group of emerging theatrical youth.

Adaira noted the great embrace of the festival by the Ministry of Culture, which encourages its continuation, revealing the fifth session, which will present the works of the great playwright Saadallah Wannous, while striving for the festival to take on an Arab and international dimension, especially with great theatrical stature such as the late Saadallah Wannous, whose works are shown on stage. Arab and international theatres.

The director of the opening show, Dr. Muhammad Ismail Basal, who chose a show that bears psychological and emotional dimensions of the concept of customs and traditions that imprison and restrict women, appreciated the festival, which provides the opportunity to shed light on playwrights who have their mark and their theatrical presence.

He stressed the importance of this session, which chose the theater of Mamdouh Adwan, whose theatrical works constitute an imprint in the history of the Syrian theater due to the importance of his works, which are characterized by difficulty with abundant culture and the high ability of the writer to intensify the text, which makes addressing the production of his works also requires a high cultural level.

For his part, Majd Sarim, Director of Culture in Lattakia, indicated that the Ministry of Culture hosted the festival within the framework of encouraging youth initiatives and providing full support to highlight the work of Syrian theatrical creators, including writers and directors, in addition to showing and revealing young talents and bringing them to the stage.

The Left Festival chose, during its past three sessions, the works of the playwrights Joanne Jean, Majd Younes Ahmed and Muhammad Ismail Basal.
