Franken has produced many famous sons: they were or are successful in areas such as politics, sports, TV or fashion.

Nuremberg - Franconia is famous for many things: the bratwurst (especially Drei im Weggla), the Nuremberg Christmas market or beer.

The Franconian metropolis was only recently voted Germany's beer capital.

Famous Franks: Dürer, Morlock and Nowitzki

But in addition to products or events, Middle Franconia as well as Upper and Lower Franconia have also produced countless famous personalities.

The most famous son of Nuremberg is probably Albrecht Dürer.

He lived from 1471 to 1528, his works such as the Dürer hare or his self-portrait can be seen in museums all over the world, including the Alte Pinakothek in Munich, the Albertina in Vienna and the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.

The name of Max Morlock (1925-1994) is also closely associated with Nuremberg.

"Maxl" was twice German champion with 1. FC Nürnberg, and with the German national team he won the title in the "Miracle of Bern".

Another football star also comes from the region: Lothar Matthäus was born in Erlangen in 1961.

Among other things, he won the German championship seven times and was world and European champion with the national team.

Dirk Nowitzki from Würzburg (born in 1978) caused a stir in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks and won the title.
