The Ministry of Foreign Affairs unveiled today (Tuesday) a dedicated application for Israeli travelers around the world called TravIL.

The application is also intended for the members of the families of the passengers who remain in Israel, and it is used as an aid in preparing for and during the trip.

Starting this morning it is available for download to the general public in the Google and Apple app stores.

The application is simple to use but still suffers from "birth defects" and not all of its features work smoothly.

Among other things, it provides travel warnings and special instructions for various destinations in the world, which will also reach the mobile device as push notifications.

In addition, it enables quick dialing to the emergency centers in the various countries and to the Israeli missions there.

However, this is not just an application for emergencies, but a comprehensive tool for most of the arrangements and procedures related to traveling abroad. For example, you can get information about the need for an entry visa in the destination country and about the procedure for issuing it. You can also get information about Jewish organizations, hours of operation , renewal of travel documents and the like.

Under the icon "check list" you can organize in advance all the arrangements involved in the trip, starting from the issuance of a passport, through information on vaccinations to leaving the details of the route with acquaintances.

The application also allows you to scan and save centrally all documents related to the trip, under the icon "passenger folder".

Under the icon "Questions and Answers" you can find detailed explanations regarding how to proceed in various emergency cases, starting with the loss of a passport, through entanglement with the law in the local country, to hospitalization in a hospital abroad and contacting the insurance company in Israel.

All in all, it is a free, well-designed and easy-to-use application, which offers several useful features for travelers abroad. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that all the information in it is kept on the phone only, for privacy reasons, and is not uploaded to the network or any cloud service.
