Opinion On ultra-Orthodox, economy and style Israel today

A covert collaboration of ideologues on the left and snobs on the right, who together perpetuate a situation that, in my opinion, there is a majority in Israel to eradicate • As it seems now, the situation will not be eradicated

1. The whole weekend echoed in the space of a frightened country a threatening slide that was deployed behind Kushmaro: 1,314 for the calf, 1,235 for the soldier.

Those who were not bothered by the slide were bothered by the accompanying text.

"A government of change on steroids", the presenter called the government that came to "change Israel".

It was terrible in my opinion, and there have already been quarrels about it.

The amount of untruth in the slide screamed.

Both supports were called "salaries", although one is intended for a soldier and the other for supporting a family.

The amount of salary for a soldier is much higher (and not enough), but we will leave that for a moment.

The main figure that emerged from the slide is precisely the opposite message from what its creators wanted to present: it is impossible to ignore the fact that the amount is surprisingly small.

It is understood that the amount paid to the state treasury in the support section for the children is large, but the amount of personal support for the child and his family is almost meaningless when it comes to a family of five people on average.

I estimate that most intelligent people who saw this slide were shocked at the first moment, and even clicked and even gnashed their teeth, but then, on second thought, this fact began to seep into consciousness, and they asked themselves: is that all?

In other words, the conclusion is that there is no connection between the choice of ultra-Orthodox men to dedicate their lives to Torah study and the modest government allowance.

They will continue this lifestyle even if you cancel.

2. So why are the ultra-Orthodox representatives still fighting for these allowances?

There are many answers.

Some of them we will hide our ears from hearing, even though there is a kernel of truth in them: these claim that it is to preserve power, and these talk wickedly about the perpetuation of ignorance and all kinds of profanity of this kind.

It seems to me that the reason lies in the unnecessary perpetuation of socialist foundations in our small country, a fact that creates a climate that supports pensions.

The left-wing parties that dominate the discourse take care of this climate and legitimize sweeping welfare policies.

The ultra-orthodox parties, which have been a cornerstone of any coalition for many years, are not socialist in their basic concept, but claim, rightly, that if they are going to divide, the population of their voters also deserves their share.

And so, for years now, there has been a covert collaboration of ideologues on the left and snobs on the right, who together perpetuate a situation that, in my opinion, there is a majority in Israel to eradicate.

As it stands now, the situation will not be eradicated.

3. In the mid-1990s, I covered the ultra-orthodox representation in the Knesset as a parliamentary reporter.

Rabbi Avraham Ravitz headed the Finance Committee, and Dan Meridor served as Minister of Finance.

In the annals of the ultra-orthodox economy, these years were the most fruitful in terms of government support.

They established rules that some budgeting systems are still based on today.

Unique sections were introduced to the budget basis, and a new basis was established for the yeshiva budgeting.

All this was done quietly, without headlines, without riots or criticism.

Why?

Because Ravitz and Meridor.

These two personalities, the late and Bala, were not outstanding men of action - but they were smart and intelligent, got along with each other and did everything with dignity and splendour.

It's because he was a Slavodsky, and it's because he was a Jabotinsky.

From them I learned that it is also possible otherwise.

Are you listening, Rabbi Yitzchak, Rabbi Aryeh, Rabbi Moshe?

Do whatever it takes, but try to do it as gracefully as possible.
