The dog Frida, who became famous for becoming a symbol of hope during the earthquake that struck Mexico in September 2017, died this Tuesday, the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) reported in a statement.

Frida died in Mexico City at the facilities of the Canine Control Subgroup, "a place that was her home during the last years of her life, due to conditions typical of her age," according to the statement.

Frida was retired by Semar in 2019.

"His last operational participation as a rescue dog was in the state of Oaxaca and another in Mexico City during the earthquakes of 2017, managing to find a large number of people throughout his trajectory, adding a total of 55 (12 people alive and 43 lifeless)”, explained Semar.
