With hard-working helpers, the horticultural association planted a total of 1080 shrubs and ground covers in the center and at the entrance to the town.

Forstern

- In coordination with the municipality, the association for gardening and home care has planted the gravel square in the center of town and the gabion wall at the end of the town in the direction of Hohenlinden.

The volunteers planted a total of 1080 plants in three days.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Erding newsletter.)

In addition to helpers from the association, landscape gardener Michael Scherer was also there, who advised and actively supported the gardeners - from the first measurement to the selection of the plants to planting.

On Thursday, the plants were delivered by truck: eight specimens each of service pear, red dogwood, Prague snowball, winter snowball and red smoke tree, which form the big picture.

In addition, there were 20 yellow and 20 white five-fingered shrubs, red summer spar and lavender as medium-high shrubs.

Town center and town entrance: 960 ground covers, most of which are cranesbills

Stamina was required for the ground cover plants: Here the helpers planted a total of 960 plants – 120 each of St. John’s wort and coneflower and a total of 720 specimens of Himalayan and Balkan cranesbill had to be processed.

The large shrubs were used on Thursday with the help of an excavator, reported Gartler boss Ludwig Hiebinger.

On Friday it was the turn of the smaller shrubs and the bark mulch was distributed, with Willy Huber from Bocköd helping out with heavy equipment.

On Saturday, the volunteers were busy with the ground cover.

The employees of the municipal building yard had previously prepared the planting sites, and the Forstern fire brigade then helped with the watering.

The same plants were used in the town center and at the entrance to the town – “for a certain recognition value”, as Hiebinger explained.

He was pleased that the planting campaign went so quickly and easily and said: "We planted a total of 60 meters, 23 meters at the entrance to the village and 37 meters in the center of the village." Tractor decorating the entrance to the town.

Thanks to the volunteers: "Without you, this would not be possible"

You have to be patient for a few years until the plants have developed properly and show their full (colour) splendour.

As reported, the municipality made a good 10,000 euros available for the campaign.

Mayor Rainer Streu was happy about the result on Saturday and thanked the volunteers: "Without you it wouldn't be possible at all." For the helpers there was a snack donated by the community.

Landscape gardener Scherer was also enthusiastic: "It's great that the community is making this possible."

Incidentally, on the gabion noise protection wall in the south of Forstern, the shrubs and ground cover replace the plant troughs, in which thujas, among other things, grew until now.

And in the center of the town at the large gravel car park, the plants not only serve as a certain privacy screen and greening of the otherwise barren area, but also for another purpose: they block several access roads from the state road to the gravel square.

In doing so, the municipality is complying with a request from the road construction authority, which had requested this for reasons of traffic safety.
