Although the car manufacturer Volkswagen has suffered a decrease in sales in the last two years due to the corona virus and the global chip crisis, on the other hand it can take solace in the success of its new "ID" series of electric cars, from which approximately 500,000 cars were delivered within two years, one year earlier than the manufacturer's forecasts.
The manufacturer's new electric era began in October 2020 with the start of marketing the compact family ID.3 in Europe and was joined by the ID.4 jeeps and its coupe version ID.5, while in China there is also a larger recreational vehicle known as the ID.6.
This year the ID.Buzz was launched - a passenger/commercial transporter in the spirit of the classic microbus from the 1950s, and by the end of 2026 the company is expected to launch no less than 10 new electric models.

As part of the company's ACCELERATE strategy to become a supplier of non-polluting vehicles, Volkswagen plans that by 2030 70% of its sales in Europe will be electric cars, on the way to producing 100% electric cars for the European market by 2033. In the US and China the target is more modest and modest on 50% of the sales for the aforementioned period.
To meet the manufacturer's ambitions, it is planning the largest range of electric models in Europe, from an entry-level model at 25,000 euros to a luxury sedan "Aero B" that will compete with the Tesla Model 3.
Volkswagen reports 135,000 orders accumulated for their electric models, but due to the global chip crisis and other problems in the supply chain, the pace of production continues to be slower than desired.
The company attributes the accelerated growth in demand for electric models to the manufacturer's dedicated MEB platform for electric models, which allows for great flexibility in developing models for a multitude of categories, a reduction in production costs, the combination of a battery that guarantees a long driving range between charges, a flat floor that contributes to a passenger compartment that is more spacious than usual in relation to the external dimensions , and advanced technology that enables vehicle software updates via cellular connectivity (OTA).

In Israel, by the way, Volkswagen entered the electric market for the first time only last month, with the ID.4 recreational vehicle that will compete here with models such as the Skoda Aniac (with which it shares a common base) and the Hyundai Ioniq 5, but the delivery of the vehicles is expected only in March 2023.
