Activists of the "last generation" demonstrated on Wednesday morning against the FDP's climate policy.

They blocked streets in Berlin, some stuck to the street, according to a police spokeswoman.

As a police spokeswoman confirmed to the "Tagesspiegel", there were about eight people on the road on Mehringdamm at the intersection of Gneisenaustrasse and Yorckstrasse.

According to the police, around ten people demonstrated at the corner of Siegfriedstrasse.

There was a traffic jam.

The blockades have since been cleared.

The demonstrators wore suits and some masks with the face of FDP leader Christian Lindner.

"Block like the FDP for once," read one of the posters.

A video that the "Last Generation" published on Twitter shows a person wearing a Lindner mask being taken away by the police.

"The dangerous blocking attitude of the FDP in climate protection is a crime against all those who are already losing their lives and will lose them," wrote the activists.

In another video, the "Last Generation" shows how a demonstrator triggers a fire alarm.

According to the activists, the building is the FDP headquarters in Berlin.

Photos also show that the building's facade was sprayed with orange paint.

"We can no longer afford the selfish behavior of some of the rich and beautiful," said a spokeswoman.

A party that makes politics for this clientele at the expense of the general public is no longer sustainable.

Specifically, the activists demanded a speed limit and a continuation of the 9-euro ticket.

Berlin Senator for the Interior open to a longer

detention period

In the past few weeks, the activists have repeatedly blocked streets in Berlin and glued themselves to the asphalt.

In Vienna's Leopold Museum, members of the "last generation" poured oil on a glass-protected painting by Gustav Klimt on Monday.

The nature of the protest caused resentment, including among drivers who are stuck in traffic and some politicians.

The outrage was exacerbated by the accidental death of a cyclist in Berlin-Wilmersdorf.

A blockade by the climate activists had probably delayed the arrival of a special vehicle from the fire brigade.

However, it is unclear whether this would have been used at all (read more about this here).

The Berlin Senator for the Interior reacted to the protests on Tuesday by calling for the possible detention time in police custody to be extended.

So far, the Berlin police can take a person into police custody for a maximum of 48 hours.

A change in the law would have to be decided by the Berlin House of Representatives.
