"Qatar offered the Ecuadorian players millions to lose the opening game" - Voila! FIFA World Cup

Report: Officials in Qatar approached eight players and offered them a bribe of $7.4 million so that they would lose on purpose in the match that would kick off the World Cup

Three days to the opening whistle of the World Cup in Qatar, the journalist Amjad Taha managed to shake the world of football when he reported this evening (Thursday) that the Qataris tried to bribe several players of the Ecuadorian national team in order to win the match that will kick off the World Cup on Sunday evening.

According to the report, the Qataris approached eight players of the Ecuador national team and offered them a total of 7.4 million dollars in exchange for "selling" them the opening game.

Taha, a journalist who lives in London, claimed that five senior officials in Ecuador and Qatar confirmed the details to him.

Did they try to bribe the Ecuadorians too?

The report that stirs the world

According to the report, the Qataris offered the Ecuadorians that they would let them win 0:1 from a goal in the second half in exchange for a transfer fee.

It's hard to ignore such publications if you take into account that the World Cup was held in Qatar in the first place after it bribed FIFA senior officials with millions of dollars so that they would choose it to host the World Cup and for it they also moved it to the winter months for the first time ever.

The Ecuadorian team has of course already arrived in Qatar and is in the midst of preparations for the opening match. An official reference to the report has yet to be heard from the Qataris or the South American team, but Ecuadorian striker Angel Mena said even before Taha's publication: "We must not change anything and play like in the qualifiers.

We were an attacking team and we focus on doing the best.

Of course we are stressed because it is the opening match of the World Cup, but we are aware of the size of the class and we must do everything to win and not think about anything else."

The national teams of Qatar and Ecuador were drawn to Group A along with the Netherlands and Senegal.

The opening match will be held on Sunday at 18:00 and the next day the second match will be held at home when Senegal will face the Netherlands (Monday, 18:00).

In the second round in Group A, Qatar will play against Senegal (Friday, 15:00) and on the same day Holland will meet Ecuador at 18:00.

In the last and decisive round on Tuesday November 29, Ecuador will face Senegal and at the same time Qatar will fight against the Netherlands.
