An 18-year-old girl ran away from her home after spending almost a year locked in her room with little food and water, she told the Las Vegas (Nevada) police, explaining that a neighbor helped her contact the authorities.
The girl's mother, Addy Gonzales, and grandmother, María Pasarín, were arrested on charges of imprisonment and child abuse.
Another person, Daniel Omezcua, was also arrested on those charges, but the police did not clarify his relationship with the minor.
Police responded to the home near 5th Street and Alexander Road in North Las Vegas earlier this month after a neighbor reported seeing the young woman using a ladder to climb up to one of the second-floor bedrooms. as reported by the local station KBLR, an affiliate of Noticias Telemundo in Nevada.
The neighbor, who was not identified, told police the young woman asked him for food and water and told him that her parents had her locked in a bedroom and only let her eat at night, when her mother came home from work. , according to Telemundo Denver.

When agents searched the home, they found "a mattress box spring and bed frame," as well as a bucket "half-filled with what appeared to be urine and fecal matter," according to court documents.
Authorities suspect the girl was locked in the room for at least a year. It was not clear if the defendants had a lawyer who could speak on their behalf.
