The corona isolation obligation is expiring in several federal states.

Long Covid Germany warns that politicians must “take appropriate responsibility for the consequences”.

Several federal states such as Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and Schleswig-Holstein are letting the corona isolation obligation expire.

Anyone who gets infected with the corona virus there no longer has to stay at home.

Hesse also announced this, but leaves the timing of this open.

The end of the mask requirement was a “nationwide intelligence test” – many continued to wear it voluntarily.

End of the corona isolation obligation: Merz thinks it is justifiable

The CDU chairman Friedrich Merz considers the end of the corona isolation obligation to be justifiable.

"The time when there was a high risk of infection with a severe course of the disease is over," he told the Funke media group, according to the

German Press Agency (dpa)

.

He does not share the "almost siren-like alarmism" of Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach.

"We should return to normality and officially declare Corona over by spring of next year at the latest," he demanded.

Karl Lauterbach (SPD) said according to

dpa

clear criticism of an end to the isolation obligation last Friday.

"This is now at the wrong time and does not find the approval of the federal government." He warned of a "patchwork quilt" with different isolation rules in the federal states.

The German Foundation for Patient Protection also criticized this.

There is also no question of infection protection for vulnerable groups, for whom the end of the mask requirement was also a problem.

Long Covid 'don't ignore as uncomfortable collateral damage'

Mia Diekow, a spokeswoman for the Long Covid Germany (LCD) initiative, told

BuzzFeed News DE

about the end of the obligation to isolate: “The risk of developing long Covid and thus chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) is still high and not through slight courses or vaccinations excluded. ”That is why one can only recommend everyone to protect themselves from Sars-CoV-2 infections.

Every new infection harbors “a high potential for health deterioration”.

The German patient guidelines define complaints that persist for more than four weeks after the corona infection as long covid, and they last longer than twelve weeks as post covid subform.

The Long Covid Germany (LCD) initiative, as a private association of “Long Covid sufferers”, is committed to better researching the disease and improving the situation of all those affected in the long term.

According to Diekow, the danger to the economy and society associated with the considerable burden of illness should not be underestimated.

"Anyone who wants to relax must also take appropriate responsibility for the consequences." Politicians urgently need to invest massively and sustainably in research into post-viral syndromes and provide more financial resources to deal with the "current health crisis caused by the late effects of Sars-Cov." -2 arises”.

“We need research, care and education.

You can't ignore Post Covid and ME/CFS as uncomfortable collateral damage," she told

BuzzFeed News.
