The internal campaign will have at least had a first benefit: to raise the number of members.
They are 91,000 able to vote, some 40,000 more than before the summer.
This remains a historic low for a party which still had 140,000 members in the last ballot, which led to the nomination of Valérie Pécresse for the presidency.
But at least, this rebound comes to deny the anticipated proclamations of clinical death of the party.
Whoever is chosen, militant reconstruction will be a prerequisite for any reconquest.
