The Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Engineer Hussein Makhlouf, discussed with the Iraqi Minister of Environment, Dr. Jassim Abdel Aziz Hammadi, ways to enhance cooperation in the field of the environment to confront climate change, dust storms, desertification and water scarcity.
During his meeting with Hammadi on the sidelines of participation in the 27th Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Sharm el-Sheikh, Makhlouf stressed the importance of joint action, through projects funded by climate change funds and coordination of positions with regard to international climate action.
For his part, the Iraqi minister pointed out the importance of bilateral cooperation in the field of the environment to limit climate change, explaining that it was agreed to follow up the bilateral meetings during the participation in the climate conference in order to reach work on the ground.
Makhlouf also discussed with the President of the World Organization for Green Economy, Dr. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the possibility of cooperation and possible steps to move forward in the environmental field.
Minister Makhlouf and the accompanying delegation also participated in a session during the conference entitled “The Role of the Green Economy in Solutions Based on Nature.”
