The Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Muhammad Hassan Qatana, said that Syria's production of fish increased from three thousand to ten thousand tons, and the production of fingerlings increased from one and a half million to five million fingerlings.

During the meeting of the General Authority for Fisheries and Aquariums in the city of Jableh, our cat stressed the need to develop a clear and comprehensive guide for licensing mechanisms, breeding methods, and fodder that must be provided, and everything related to that, whether for family farms or floating cages.

He pointed out that the Directorate has carried out special studies for marine farms and floating cages, and there are great positive results in investing in fresh water, indicating that there is great cooperation with researchers at Tishreen University, and appropriate fodder and the possibility of spawning at the tooth site are being studied to produce fingerlings suitable for breeding in salt water. Allocating the necessary funds to establish a laboratory specialized in fodder at the site of Al-San.

The Director General of the Authority, Dr. Abdul Latif Ali, explained that it was planned to produce 6.5 million fingerlings this year, and it is under implementation. About 2 million fingerlings were cultured in dams from the planned plan of 2.2 million fingerlings. The number of family farms implemented this year reached 1341 farms, with a number of fingerlings of about 198,800. fingerlings in the governorates of Homs, Hama, Lattakia, Tartous, Quneitra, Damascus countryside, Daraa and Aleppo. The number of fingerlings used for research experiments reached 51 thousand fingerlings, and the number of fingerlings sold to breeders, owners of private farms and dam investors reached 840,899 fingerlings.

Ali pointed out that the surpluses of fish production are marketed by 70 percent in the private sector markets, 30 percent through the authority’s outlets at prices that compete with the local market, noting that silver and ivory carp have recently been introduced, along with comb fish and other types of carp.

Dr. Amir Ibrahim from the Institute of Marine Research pointed out that the issues of marine farming, marine fishing, trawling fishing, dam farming, the extraction of a Syrian share of tuna fish, the investment of the marine boat, and the development of research plans for research in the authority and everything related to the development of fish wealth were discussed.
