A person riding an electric scooter in central Paris died Thursday after a collision with a van, we learned from a police source.
“At 7 a.m., boulevard des Italiens, a scooter driver hit a van in circulation.
He died,” a police source said.
The judicial accident processing service is seized of the investigation.
If more and more French people use electric scooters, the mortality of users increases from year to year: 22 deaths recorded last year, against 10 in 2019 and seven in 2020.
The City of Paris is also studying the possible ban on self-service scooters when the current contract expires at the end of February 2023. Questioned on Thursday, the first deputy Emmanuel Grégoire indicated that there were "still exchanges" at this subject but that the mayor Anne Hidalgo leaned towards their prohibition.
