The IDF's sea arm, the "Wall" directorate at the Defense Ministry's MAPAT and the Rafael company successfully completed an advanced interception test with the "Military Shield Dome" system today (Thursday).

This is a system based on an advanced version of the "Iron Dome" system and is operated from the Sa'ar 6 - 'Achi Oz' attack ship.

As part of the experiment, the system was placed on the Achi Oz ship, the second ship out of the four advanced missile ships, which were received in the last two years in the arm of the sea. Making the system operational is another significant milestone in building the operational capabilities of the ships.

During the experiment, the system successfully performed detection and interception procedures in challenging scenarios, simulating the threat scenarios.

The capabilities of the "Naval Defense Dome" constitute a significant addition to the defense capability of the naval arm in its many missions, including the protection of strategic assets, the economic waters and maintaining the maritime superiority of the State of Israel in the region.

This achievement is thanks to a joint technological and engineering effort of the naval arm, the Ministry of Defense's PAAT, the main developer Rafael, the Israeli Aerospace Industries - the manufacturer of the radars, and Emprest, the manufacturer of the Shov.

The development included the integration of the systems into a unified combat system, while reaching an operational capability for the operation of the ship and its systems by the warriors of the sea arm.

"Military Defense Dome" is another tier in the multi-layered defense system, based on four operational layers of defense: "Iron Dome", "Magic Wand", "Hats 2" and "Hats 3", the development of which is led by the 'Wall' directorate in Mapa in the Ministry of Defense.

"A significant milestone for the defense capability"

Defense Minister Benny Gantz said: "The conversion of a naval protective dome into an operational one is a significant milestone for the defense capabilities at sea of the State of Israel. I would like to congratulate the sea arm, the wall directorate at MPA and Rafael, for the groundbreaking technological process, the cooperation, and the operational determination that led to this success.

The State of Israel continues to build its capabilities in defense and attack - and will continue to maintain its security superiority in the region, its assets, its infrastructure and, of course, first and foremost - the lives and safety of the citizens of Israel."

Moshe Fatal, head of the 'Wall' directorate at MFA, added: "The 'Naval Shield Dome' system successfully identified the threats and launched the 'Iron Dome' interceptors from the heart of the sea towards them, which successfully intercepted the threats. The 'Naval Shield Dome' which is its naval version of 'Iron Dome' allows operational freedom of action and joins the team of operational air defense systems, which make up the air defense system of the State of Israel.

"The 'Iron Dome' system has completed a very successful series of tests in the past year, both in Israel and in the US, as part of tests by the Marines and the ARMY, while meeting the operational goals, as manifested in the 'Dawn' operation," he said.

The Chief of Staff of the Sea Arm, Lieutenant Colonel Guy Goldfarb, said: "The Sea Arm is in the process of an advanced implementation, at an unprecedented pace, of the Saari 6 series of warships. The success of the test is the implementation of a 'naval shield dome' system on a sister ship 1 oz.

Just recently we noted the initial operationalization of the Ahi Magen ship, the first ship to be taken in the Saari 6 series which had time to go on its first operational activity - a patrol of the economic waters of the State of Israel and the protection of the economic and strategic assets. The HaSa'ar 6 ships will be a central means of protecting the area of economic waters and ensuring the maritime superiority of the State of Israel."

Dr. Ran Gozali, Head of the Land and Sea Division at Rafael, added: "The Naval Iron Dome is the only operational maritime defense solution in the world and the test on the Saar 6 ship is a significant milestone in the development of the system. We are proud to see the system being operated by the Israeli Navy and Defense of the strategic assets of the State of Israel".
