After two years of a pandemic, Bavaria decided in mid-November that the time had come to abolish a drastic rule: the obligation to isolate.

Munich – It was a cornerstone of Corona policy: the obligation to isolate.

The regulation applied to anyone who tested positive for the virus.

It was probably one of the most drastic measures that applied over the entire course of the two-year corona pandemic.

Now the obligation to isolate has come to an end: New rules regarding the pandemic have been in effect in Bavaria and other federal states since Wednesday, November 16th.

Corona in Bavaria: New measures replace compulsory isolation

Instead of the obligation to isolate, the simply formulated rule of thumb is used: If you are sick, stay at home.

Previously it was said that whoever is infected stays at home.

As a result, people in Bavaria are no longer obliged to self-isolate if they test positive for the corona virus, even though they have no symptoms.

Only those who are really sick, have a runny nose, cough and / or fever should stay at home.

In the press conference after the cabinet meeting on Tuesday, November 15, the head of the Bavarian State Chancellery, Florian Herrmann (CSU), said: "It's the jump from the pandemic towards normality."

Based on the current course of the pandemic and, among other things, with regard to new drugs, it was realized that "this very drastic measure of isolation, of isolation, can be lifted," says Herrmann.

It is then a logical consequence that this applies in general, according to the politician.

This means that the isolation obligation applies to everyone, including students, for example, who have long been considered particularly worthy of protection.

Which Corona regulations apply now?

The most important measures in a compact overview

  • Isolation

: There is no longer an obligation to isolate in Bavaria if the corona tests are positive.

  • Mask requirement

: Infected, i.e. those who tested positive, must wear a mask.

The new mask requirement only applies outdoors if a minimum distance of 1.5 meters cannot be maintained.

It does not apply indoors when you are alone.

Anyone who has been symptom-free for at least 48 hours is no longer subject to the mask requirement after five days at the earliest.

  • Entry and activity bans

: Corona positive people are not allowed to enter any facilities where they come into contact with vulnerable groups, such as hospitals, asylum and homeless accommodation and care facilities.

A ban on activities also applies here, summarizes the BR.

If there is no contact with vulnerable groups, there are exceptions - for example for curative education facilities and rehabilitation centers.

Rules with logic: The appeal to reason

In the press conference after the cabinet meeting, the appeal to reason and common sense resonates above all.

It should go without saying that you stay at home with symptoms.

And work from home if possible.

"The virus will not go away, the virus will continue to be there, the way we deal with the virus is different," explains Herrmann.

And also reminds that the Ministry of Health is still monitoring the situation and is in close consultation with experts and the LGL (Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety).
