Today, the Arab Writers Union opened two new rural libraries in the villages of Habran and Sama al-Bardan in rural As-Suwayda, with the launch of competitions to encourage reading.

The opening ceremony of the two libraries, which was attended by a crowd of popular, civil and cultural activities, and a number of members of the executive office of the federation, included the presentation of traditional songs, dances for children and poems, with the presentation of many of the activities of the local community in the two villages, intellectuals and participating writers, a group of books in support of the two libraries.

Speeches delivered during the opening emphasized the importance of reading and writing in supporting the cultural movement and promoting and disseminating science, thought, awareness and knowledge in societies and fortifying them.

And to encourage the cultural situation and the presence of a large readership segment, especially among children and youth, the Writers Union launched a reading competition in both villages, similar to the competition that was launched in the village of Shinira for the best young readers in it during the opening of its rural library at the end of last September, while also circulating it to the rest of the villages, which It includes libraries of the Union, to include children and adolescents, with prizes announced at a reading festival.

The head of the Union of Arab Writers in Syria, Dr. Muhammad al-Hourani, pointed out in a statement to reporters that the opening of these two libraries comes within the framework of the Union's work in terms of caring for the countryside, youth and the cultural movement in general, so that these libraries will be a source of cultural and civilizational radiation in its regions and neighborhoods.

The head of the Arab Writers Union branch in As-Suwayda, writer Wijdan Abu Mahmoud, noted in a similar statement the interest and initiative of the local community activities to equip the two libraries, which were provided as a first stage with between one thousand and 1,500 books, provided that they are successively supplied with books, publications and publications.

During the previous period, the Writers Union had opened five rural libraries in the governorate in each of the villages of Al-Munaithira, Al-Buraika, Walga, Atil and Shinira, in addition to opening a library in the civil prison branch, with the launch of a competition, the first of its kind, for the best young readers in the village of Shanira.
