Ukraine: a quarter of the inhabitants deprived of electricity, denounces Zelensky

"At present, more than ten million Ukrainians (a quarter of the population, editor's note) are without electricity", especially in the kyiv region, declared President Volodymyr Zelensky during his daily television address.

Several Ukrainian cities, including the capital kyiv, have been the targets of Russian strikes in recent days, causing power cuts.

The national electricity operator Ukrenergo announced the extension of power cuts for the day due to the "worsening of the situation".

"Due to a sharp cooling, electricity consumption has increased in the regions of Ukraine" which has "further complicated the already difficult situation in the electricity system", leading to "wider restrictions" of electricity consumption. energy across the country, Ukrenergo said.

The repetition of these bombings targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure since September regularly deprives millions of Ukrainians of power and water.
