Iranian security forces have arrested a terrorist cell linked to riots and vandalism in West Azerbaijan province, northwest of the country.
The Iranian news agency, IRNA, quoted the Iranian Islamic Revolution Guards Corps as saying in a statement: “The security services dismantled a terrorist cell linked to the riots in the city of Urmia, the center of West Azerbaijan province,” noting that the cell consisted of several people who brought weapons and ammunition into Iranian territory through the province’s borders. with Iraq.
The statement added: The terrorists confessed, during interrogation, that they brought these weapons into the country with the aim of using them in riots in Iranian cities against citizens and security forces, stressing that there are hostile elements outside the country who directly lead the terrorist cell.
For his part, the governor of Khuzestan, Sadeq Khalilian, announced the arrest of 11 people involved in the terrorist attack that took place in the city of Izeh last Wednesday, killing seven Iranians.
Khalilian said in a statement to Iranian television: “11 people involved in this terrorist attack were arrested,” noting that the terrorists took advantage of the gatherings of some young people, infiltrated them and initiated shooting at people, stressing that all terrorist networks that supported this terrorist attack will be identified and arrested. people and punish them.
Two terrorist attacks took place last Wednesday in the city of Isfahan, central Iran, and Izeh, southwest, killing 10 people and injuring others.
