The Ivorian soldiers engaged in the UN mission in Mali will also leave the country.
The day after the announcement of the withdrawal of 300 British soldiers from Minusma, Côte d'Ivoire announced in a letter dated November 11 its intention to disengage its 900 soldiers.
Concretely, the letter indicates that "
the relief of the protection company based in Mopti as well as the deployment of staff officers and police officers planned respectively for October and November 2022 can no longer be carried out
".
The last Ivorian soldiers will a priori have left Mali in August 2023.
Côte d'Ivoire is the third African country to leave the UN mission after Benin and Egypt.
Sweden, El Salvador and the United Kingdom have also left the Minusma, while Germany indicated this week to put its participation on hold.
