Attorney General Merrick Garland will appoint a special counsel to determine whether the Department of Justice brings criminal charges against former President Donald Trump in connection with two pending investigations: his role in the January 6, 2021 storming of the Capitol, and the transfer to his residence in Mar-a-Lago of secret government documents after leaving the White House.
Garlanda is expected to make the announcement at a press conference on Friday morning.
