Laura Borràs will sit on the bench for falsehood and prevarication as of February 10

The trial of the suspended president of Parliament, Laura Borràs, will begin on February 10, as reported by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TJSC) this Friday in a note.

The also leader of Junts per Catalunya is accused of falsehood and prevarication for having allegedly divided a public contract to favor a friend, when she directed the Institució de les Lletres Catalanes, before 2018. The TSJC has also reported that it rejects the request of the Prosecutor's Office of not accepting the expert evidence requested by the defense and which was entrusted to the former member of Fuerza Nueva convicted of the murder of Yolanda Gómez

According to an order known this Friday, the Court has scheduled the trial for eight morning and afternoon days, with which March 1 would be completed.

The investigating magistrate, Jordi Seguí, accuses the suspended president of Parliament of "abusing her functions" in front of the cultural institution by "arranging" with her friend and collaborator Isaías Herrero to "defraud" the Generalitat .

Seguí calculates that in total about 300,000 euros were defrauded, involving 18 finger contracts.

With the division, it was avoided having to carry out a process of free concurrence.

Borràs, who will be sitting on the bench with two other people, is accused of the crimes of prevarication and falsehood.

These two types are included within the crimes traditionally related to corruption and for this reason, as soon as an oral trial was opened, last July, she was suspended from her position as president of the Chamber.

The Prosecutor's Office requests six years in prison and 21 years of disqualification for Borras, in addition to a fine of 144,000 euros.

The main evidence against her is some very explicit emails from 2013 and 2014 between the two of them, in which she supposedly explains how to carry out the fractionation.

The Junts leader has never accepted that they are hers.

Hence, her defense tries to deny that authorship behind the scenes and has hired a well-known computer expert.

This is Luis Enrique Hellín Moro, who was a member of the far-right formation Fuerza Nueva and was convicted of the murder and torture of a young militant of the Socialist Workers Party in 1980.

The family of the murdered activist, as well as almost the entire political spectrum, criticized the decision of Borrà's defense team.

The Prosecutor's Office officially requested that Hellín Moro be dismissed, considering that the test results were in question due to his past (he had not done the same in other instances such as the National Court) but the leader of Junts did not make any changes.

The Junts leader, who is being increasingly questioned within her own party, has always attributed this trial to an alleged "State campaign" against her for her independence ideology.
