Hundreds of citizens of Burkina Faso demonstrated in front of the French embassy in Ouagadougou, in protest against the French military presence in their country, calling for an end to it in the Sahel region and the establishment of military cooperation with Russia to confront terrorism.

According to Agence France-Presse, hundreds of demonstrators gathered at the United Nations roundabout in the heart of the capital, Ouagadougou, and went to the French embassy, where they carried out a protest during which they chanted slogans against France and its colonial policies and raised Russian flags, but the security forces dispersed the demonstrators by force.

Sheikh Mahmoudou, one of the leaders of the protest, said: "The demonstrators sent a message demanding France's departure from the country, and they will send other messages to the authorities to demand France's departure as well."

In turn, one of the demonstrators said: “We no longer want France today or tomorrow, as our country is constantly exposed to attacks by terrorists, and if their presence does not lead to results, let them leave the place to other partners.”

France maintains a military presence in Burkina Faso through the Saber force, a unit of special forces stationed in Campouencin, about 30 kilometers from the capital, Ouagadougou.

It is noteworthy that Burkina Faso has suffered since 2015 from repeated attacks launched by armed groups affiliated with the terrorist organizations “Al-Qaeda and ISIS”, which caused the death and injury of thousands of people and the displacement of about two million people.
