More than ten million Ukrainians were left without electricity after earlier this week Russia attacked targets across the country, damaging many of its vital infrastructures.

According to the Prime Minister, Denis Shmihal, about half of Ukraine's energy system was shut down due to these attacks.

Now the main fear is that the residents of the country will not have electricity supply while the temperatures in the country continue to drop, and the freezing winter is fast approaching.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned against disruptions in energy supply and accused the Russians of "energy terrorism".

"Civilian sites are Russia's main target," he claimed.

"Russia is waging a war on electricity and heating for Ukrainians as it attacks power plants and energy facilities."

According to him, the areas that received the main jump in the attack this week are Kyiv, Odessa, Vinnytsia and Sumy.

The Ukrainian energy company Okranergo said that the Russian attack created a high demand for electricity in areas where it had already been restored, but that the latest attacks resulted in new damage that made it difficult to resupply it.

The country's government energy adviser, Oleksandr Kharchenko, said that half of Ukrainians are experiencing power outages these days.

Yasno, the electricity supplier in Kyiv, said that the capital city experienced emergency outages throughout yesterday, when it had less than half of its normal electricity supply.

In the South Odessa area, the governor warned the residents of the disruptions and urged them to seek shelter.

The eastern region of Kharkiv was also hit by attacks, less than a week after it was liberated from the Russian army.

The governor of the region, Oleg Singovov, said that the region was damaged, as was "critical infrastructure" in it.

Russia blamed Kyiv for the results of its attacks.

"The lack of willingness on the part of the Ukrainians to solve the problem, to start negotiations, and to look for a common ground - that's why this result," said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

He said that Moscow will continue what it calls a "special military operation".

The UN warned of a severe humanitarian crisis characterized by a lack of energy in Ukraine with the onset of a long and cold winter.
