In an interview with football legend Cristiano Ronaldo, a surprising connection to the British royal family emerges.
The professional footballer unexpectedly received mail from the Royal Family.
However, the occasion was one of his darkest moments.
LONDON – The 37-year-old Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo opened his heart to British reporter and author Piers Morgan (57).
In a long and wide-ranging interview on
TalkTV
, in which he also spoke about his emotions towards his club Manchester United and questioned the commitment of young footballers.
Morgan also asks the professional athlete about his private life and is amazed when Ronald mentions that he has received a letter from the Royal Family on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II (96, † 2022).
Sympathetic lines from the British royal family surprising the sports great
The interviewer's main focus was on sporting considerations,
but Morgan also questioned Ronaldo about the death of his twin child - a young boy - at birth.
Wife Georgina Rodríguez (28) and Cristiano Ronaldo confirmed the terrible death via Instagram in April.
"It is with great sadness that we have to announce that our little son has died," was the heartbreaking message that apparently did not leave the British royal family indifferent either.
Morgan had asked Ronaldo about the support he received at the time.
There had been applause after the incident in the seventh minute of the game - matching his shirt number - including at Anfield, home of Liverpool, United's bitter rival.
Ronaldo answered Piers Morgan frankly: "I never, ever expected that.
Never."
Fake Royal Ronaldo Kit Rumors
Last year there was a wild rumor on Twitter that the monarch had asked for Ronaldo's iconic shirt - although the story was quickly proved false.
Manchester United fan channel The United Stand tweeted: "Queen Elizabeth has personally requested that Man United reserve the first shirt signed by Cristiano Ronaldo, meaning Ronaldo is the only person Queen Elizabeth could ask for an autograph asked."
Another excited Red Devil tweeted: "This is the best story of the year.
The Queen actually asks for an autograph from Ronaldo.
He has to do that better than Messi now!”
The United Stand removed the post shortly thereafter.
The participation of the British and the British monarchy was spectacular, says Ronaldo

He continued: "
I also received a letter from the Queen's family and I was very surprised."
At that point, Morgan was stunned by the news, but it turns out that Ronaldo did indeed receive a letter of condolence from the British royal family.
Solace and help for the sad footballer: "The way they [the Brits] treated me, me and my family at that difficult moment, I should say it straight to the camera: 'Thank you to the whole English community, who helped me at that moment'.”

Referring to his son, whose twin sister survived, he added: "His ashes are with me, like my father's, they are here in the house".
It's something he wants to keep for the rest of his life and not throw in an ocean.
"I'll keep her with me," he concluded.
Hardly anyone would have believed the Royals capable of these sympathetic lines, but many stories show that the deceased regent in particular spontaneously interacted with her people and apparently also with the players of the British clubs in a very sympathetic manner.
