Accusation: broke into a synagogue, stole Torah scrolls - and offered them for sale Israel today

Today (Sunday) the prosecutor's office filed an indictment against a resident of Or Yehuda and a resident of Yehud in their 30s, for five incidents of robbery, one of which was breaking into a synagogue in Yehud and stealing Torah scrolls from it.

In addition, convenience stores and supermarkets were robbed.

Three other suspects who belonged to the squad are still under suspicion, and an indictment is expected to be filed against them as well.

In the Yiftach area, an investigation was conducted in recent weeks against the squad, which carried out four violent robberies with threats of electric shocks and batons of supermarkets and convenience stores in the center of the country last month.

During the investigation of the affair, another robbery took place, attributed to the same squad, during which they broke into a synagogue in Yehud in the dead of night and stole five valuable Torah scrolls from the place, which they offered for sale to the highest bidder.

At the same time as the investigation, the police searched for the Torah books and indeed the efforts bore fruit and the books were located in a warehouse belonging to one of the suspects.

This development marked the transition of the investigation to the open phase, which included the arrest of several additional suspects.

The detention of the two main suspects was extended from time to time according to the needs of the investigation.

The detention of the other three suspects was extended and later they were released by the court with restrictions including prolonged house arrests.
