The Knesset will mark the International Day of the Fight Against Violence Against Women this week, and to mark it, the Knesset's Research and Information Center compiled a comprehensive report revealing recent data, from which it appears that in sexual offenses reported to the police in 2021, the share of women among the victims was particularly large - 82%, with 90% of them were Jewish.
The report, written by Knesset Research Center researcher Dr. Norit Yachimowitz-Cohen, shows that in 2020, 29 women were murdered in Israel, in 2021, 27 were murdered, and in 2022, 21 women were murdered.
93% of the women murdered since the beginning of 2020 were murdered by their partner or another relative.
As for Arab women who were murdered during this period, only in a third of the cases was a family relationship indicated in the investigation file.
In one tenth of the cases it was stated that the woman was murdered by a stranger, and in 58% of the cases no motive for the murder was recorded in the investigation file.
These data, which mean that most of the cases are not solved, are strengthened when examining the filing of the indictments.

From the analysis of femicide cases opened in 2020-2021, it appears that there is a difference in the rate of filing charges between the Jewish and Arab sectors.
During these years, 22 Jewish women were murdered and in only six of the cases were charges filed, but in all of them there was a family relationship between the suspect and the victim.
During these years, 33 Arab women were murdered.
Out of 11 cases in which the police knew of a family relationship between the suspect and the victim, indictments were filed in ten cases.
In 22 murder cases (two-thirds) no family relationship was recorded in the investigation file, and from this group only four indictments were filed.
