Winter is here - and with it the anxiety of the bosses of employees who are forced to miss work days • So how many annual sick days does each employee get? • And is payment due for a sick day? • Everything you need to know

Although winter is just beginning, many of us are already experiencing the "winter illnesses", which of course will increase as the weather gets colder.

Winter illnesses, not only of the workers themselves but also of their children or their spouses, pose a challenge to the Israeli economy every year, and workplaces find themselves working part-time and dealing with unusual workloads as a result.

We enlisted the help of attorney Amit Gross, founding partner and director of the labor law department at the law firm Doron, Tikotsky, Kantor, Gutman, Ness, Amit Gross & Co., to get you in order with regards to your rights in terms of the sick days procedure.

How many annual sick days does each employee get?

An employee accrues entitlement to 1.5 days of sick leave for each full month of work, and no more than 90 days, excluding the days for which the employee received sick pay according to the law.

An employee who did not work in a certain month on all working days (5-6 working days a week, depending on the practice at the workplace), but part of a full working month, will earn the employee relative sick days.

What payment is due to the employee for a sick day, and how much?

An employee who is absent due to illness will be entitled to payment for the days of his absence, provided that the employee accumulates sick days, and that the employee has submitted a sick certificate in accordance with the law.

Regarding the payment - the employee will be entitled to full sick pay starting from the fourth day of his absence.

For the second and third days the employee will be entitled to half sick pay, and for the first day of his absence the employee is not entitled to sick pay.

If in the workplace it is customary to pay full wages from the first day of the employee's absence, the employee is entitled to payment according to the customary in the workplace.
