Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo defended the timing of his interview with Piers Morgan in front of reporters Monday, adding that his comments "will not affect the concentration and focus" of his team.

"In my life, the best moment is always my moment," Ronaldo said at the press conference.

“I don't have to think about what other people think.

I speak when I want.

The players have known me very well for many years and they know the type of person I am," added the Manchester United striker.

"It's an ambitious group that is hungry and focused. So I'm sure (the interview) won't affect concentration and focus," added the Portugal captain.

Last week, the 37-year-old Manchester United forward gave an interview to Morgan in which he said he felt betrayed by the club, expressed his lack of respect for manager Erik ten Hag and questioned whether he would return to the team.

Ronaldo has been training as usual with his teammates since arriving in Doha last Friday after a stomach virus sidelined him for Portugal's friendly against Nigeria in Lisbon the day before.

"I feel very good, I'm recovered and I'm training well and ready to start the World Cup in the best possible way," Ronaldo said.

Ronaldo is in his fifth and possibly last World Cup and says that Portugal is the best team in the tournament.

"I feel like this Portugal team has incredible potential. I think we can win for sure, but we have to focus on the next game. We're focusing on Ghana, on getting a win and starting there.

"We will see at the end who is the best team, but I think that Portugal is the best team in this World Cup. But we have to show it on the pitch," he added.

Portugal is in Group H of the World Cup along with Ghana, Uruguay and South Korea.
