Protecting Children starts across the city
The "Unite Families, Fight Violence" publicity campaign organized by the Social Welfare Department marks its 20th anniversary this year. Over the years, it has been committed to promoting the message of caring for families and preventing domestic violence.
The theme of the publicity campaign this year is "Protecting Children in the City". It coincides with the United Nations "World Children's Day" on November 20. The 20th anniversary ceremony was also held on that day, and November 20 was designated as "Protecting Children's Day". All sectors of society work together to build a child-friendly society.
The 2022 "Protection of Children's Day" and the 20th Anniversary Ceremony of the "Unite Families to Fight Violence" Publicity Campaign was held on November 20 in the form of an online live broadcast, and was broadcast live on RTHK TV 32 simultaneously. Sun Yuhan, Secretary of the Labor and Welfare Bureau, emphasized that the government has been vigorously promoting the work of protecting children. The "Chief Executive's 2022 Policy Address" has clearly stated that the government will fully promote the establishment of a mandatory reporting mechanism for child abuse cases, and submit a bill to the Legislative Council in the first half of next year. And provide training for relevant practitioners to assist them in early detection and reporting of child abuse cases.

St. John Tsang Shiu Tim Primary School of the Anglican Church stood out under fierce competition and became the champion of the primary school group (team).

Mr. Lin Chengfeng, the champion of the middle school group (team), said that the short film of the school was based on real cases, hoping to bring out the importance of positive thinking and the harm of domestic violence to children.
He said that getting along with family members can be as relaxed and happy as the interaction at the end of the short film. The elders can more empathize with children's mentality, reduce blame and punishment, and give more praise and rewards.

The champion of the secondary school group (team) was won by the Boys and Children's Society of Hong Kong Sidley Center School.
Ms. Gu Qinan, the champion of the Open Group, from the Methodist Tuen Mun Integrated Services Center for Children and Youth hoped that the short film would bring out the pressure that children face in daily life and the idea of expecting support from their parents, so that parents can reflect.
She said that protecting children means cherishing the time spent with children and not being stingy with every compliment, so that children can feel the love of their families.
Parents should put themselves in the child's perspective and understand the child's thoughts, instead of looking at the child from an adult's perspective, and start caring about the child's every move in daily life.

Strengthen the promotion of "protecting children" in the future
The district units of the SWD, together with various social service organizations, have actively responded to the "Unite Families, Fight Violence" publicity campaign. Since April this year, more than 900 activities have been organized, with a total of more than 21,000 participants.
