The fans at the Al Thomama Stadium were hoping to see a flood of goals after the England team's huge victory over Iran, but they got an even game that was only decided in the last minutes by a debut goal by Cody Gakpo and another one in added time by Davey Klaasen.
The first half was characterized by a lot of lack of concentration and accuracy on the part of both teams, when Frankie de Jong missed a great opportunity to score after a nice preparatory action by Steven Berghain and Steven Berghaus.
The lack of Memphis Depay was felt, with Cody Gakpo showing insufficient attacking ability.
In the second half, it was actually the Senegal team that got into better situations, with a great kick from Boulay Dia and Idrissa Gaye, but Andries Neufert kept the net clean with fantastic saves.
Sheiko Koyata was injured and went down on a stretcher in the 74th minute with what appeared to be a hamstring strain.
In the 84th minute Cody Gakpo found the net with a shot after a great lift from Frankie de Jong.
Davey Klassen doubled (90+9) in a return ball after a kick by Memphis Depay and sealed the result.
The Orange clung to Ecuador with three points of their own, just before the meeting between the two teams in the next round of the group stage.
