The Directorate of Agriculture in Al-Hasakah included in its agricultural plan for food legume crops for the current season an area of ​​94,307 hectares within the irrigated and rainfed areas in the various regions of the governorate.

The director of the plant production department in the directorate, Eng. Jalal Bilal, stated in a statement to SANA reporter that a good and sufficient area has been allocated for these crops, on which the governorate relies on in securing various foodstuffs for citizens.

Pointing out that an area of ​​14,307 hectares has been allocated for irrigated cultivation of lentils, beans and chickpeas, and an area of ​​80,000 hectares for the same rain-fed crops.

Engineer Bilal pointed out that the irrigated crops of food legumes are grown in various areas of agricultural stability in which fixed water sources are available, while the rain-fed areas are concentrated in the first and second agricultural stability areas, especially the countryside of the cities of Darbasiyah, Amuda and Al-Malikiyah, indicating that the governorate’s farmers have completed the necessary preparations to start Cultivation of these crops, which usually begins early next month.

It is noteworthy that the production of food legumes is sold in the internal markets of the governorate, and merchants transfer the surplus to the Syrian governorates if the season's production is good.
