Bolivian, trapper and feminist, Julieta Emiliana Cazzuchelli does not consider herself provocative, she only sings about what she believes in. And 650 million listeners on YouTube show that there are many wanting to hear it

Julieta Emilia Cazzuchelli, alias Cazzu, sings and dances.

And don't miss it.Carlos F. Olmo

Cazzu, that is, Julieta Emilia Cazzuchelli (Bolivia, 28 years old), her face lights up, and that she has a good jet lag, when she mentions the name of the poet Alfonsina Storni.

That name is the key to understanding this singer who has collaborated with artists like Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Rauw Alejandro or Natti Natasha;

that she has gone through cumbia and has been inspired by Avril Lavigne's emo aesthetic;

that she plays with trap, but also with reggaeton or R&B;

that she accumulates 650 million views on YouTube with her song

Loca

de ella and that she has been nominated for a Latin Grammy.

“Alfonsina has a certain rudeness, crudeness and revolution that I identify with,” he explains.

Cazzu would have liked to be more docile, but it's not in her DNA.

“Not being submissive has brought me negative things, that people get irritated, that they are afraid of bonding with me, as if I were a threat.

If I pose a threat to someone, it is because she has done something ”.

She knows the consequences well: "She has the collateral damage that you are alone in a corner because she is the crazy one, the bad one, the one that bites."

For Cazzu, the disadvantages go elsewhere.

“They are not emotional limitations, but real ones.

I am South American, I was born in a remote town in the north of Bolivia [Fraile Pintado, in Jujuy].

All this, although it has taken more time from my career, has given me a context that I feel very proud of, ”she says.

The material recognitions do not convince her.

“When you enter this industry, he begins to blur what he thought the awards were because there are very unfair things.

I'd rather go sing than win an award."

And sing, of course, sing.

Since she was a child, when she did it at home;

since she was young, already in Buenos Aires and finished high school, when she did it in rock bands without much success.

“I barely had any money, I lived alone, I had to work and study and do something to ensure my future,” she recalls.

So he started a Facebook page with music information.

She spread videos, reviews and artist information and, among big names, gave herself visibility.

"I did it until someone discovered me and I gave them that space."

Everything changed with the remix of

Loca

, a 2018 song where Cazzu participated with Bad Bunny, Duki and Khea.

Millions of people listened to it on YouTube.

Then followed

Error 93

, his most successful album, in 2019. In 2020 he signed

A useless girl

, in tribute to Alfonsina Storni.

And now, already quite high up the Latin music food chain, he presents

Nena Trampa

, his fourth album.

Those heights have not reconciled her with power.

“I don't care how high they are, there are certain people I don't connect with,” she confesses.

This is heard in the first song of

Nena Trampa

.

Her title is

Jefa

, and the first thing that sounds in her is some shots;

then, in a manual trap, the lyrics clarify: "I don't tremble if I have to speak / I don't tremble if I have to shoot / They want to take my place / They'll never see me cry / They think they're going to scare me / Son of a bitch, I'm the trap”.

Analyze the author now: "It leaves you confused, confused, you don't know if you like it or if you hate it, that's what I want to provoke, disturb."

He doesn't like certain dynamics that he still sees in the world.

“Men get quite a bit of impunity, but they never make me angry enough that I have to speak up, because they know that if I do, they make things much worse.

You have to show them that things have already changed.”

In fact, you'd like the gender tags to go away.

“There is a Pabllo Vittar or a Villano Antillano [two interpreters who break with the feminine and masculine roles] and also people who do not fit into these labels.

I don't understand how discriminating art by gender is still prevalent, I think it's quite retrograde”.

Another of her battles as a feminist is to defend rights such as abortion.

“It is a dangerous terrain where one gets, but they are not only my ideals, they are ours.

I have always used my platform to help us, to correct disadvantages with all my energy, with all my heart, I have put my body into our fight and I will continue to do so ”, she affirms.

She has gained some ground.

"It makes me feel proud, as if I were Columbus."
