Drivers fill up at the cheapest gas station chains in the region.
According to a study, E5 was the cheapest in October for ED.
Gulf and Esso were the most expensive.
2022 was not a good year for motorists.
The lack of chips has continued to cause long waiting times for new cars, and the war in Ukraine has caused fuel prices to climb to record highs.
The bottom line is that diesel and petrol have never cost more than they did this year.
But the situation is slowly improving and the prices at the gas stations are falling again.
It is cheapest to refuel at regional chains.
This was the result of an evaluation by the comparison portal Mehr-tanken on behalf of the magazine

The liter Super E5 was therefore cheapest from the ED brand.
Drivers paid an average of 1.927 euros at around 100 petrol stations in western and southwestern Germany.
Avanti (1.933 euros) and Globus (1.924 euros) came in second and third.
At the big chains, Super E5 was significantly more expensive in October than at regional gas stations.

Meanwhile, German drivers paid the most at Gulf.
Here the liter E5 cost on average 1.995 euros.
And at other large gas station chains such as Esso (1.987 euros), Shell (1.975) or Aral (1.972 euros) the fuel was only slightly cheaper in October.

There are also some significant regional differences in fuel prices.
The petrol stations in Cuxhaven, Konstanz, Trier Plauen, Neumünster and Göttingen were the most expensive - by far.
In Cuxhaven drivers paid a whopping 18 cents more than in Ludwigsburg.

There, refueling was the cheapest with an average price of 1.893 euros.
Motorists also refueled very cheaply in October in Viersen, Göppingen, Kaiserslautern, Pforzheim and Karlsruhe.

The study also looked at how often fuel prices change every day: on average, there were around 40 adjustments per day.
The prices fluctuated significantly, with diesel it was around ten to 15 cents.
With E5, the difference was even up to 19 cents.
It is usually cheapest in the evening hours.
So it makes sense to keep an eye on fuel prices with the help of appropriate apps.
