The National Security Department of the Police Force arrested a 42-year-old man in the New Territories this morning (21st) on suspicion of violating Sections 9 and 10 of the Crimes Ordinance (Chapter 200 of the Laws of Hong Kong) for "conducting an act with seditious intent". Pursuant to a court warrant, the residence and office of the arrested man were searched and electronic communication tools suspected to have been used to distribute inflammatory messages were seized.

The investigation revealed that the arrested man was suspected of posting multiple times through different social platforms with the intention of inciting others to hate the Central Government and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, inciting others to use violence and inciting others to insult the national flag and national anthem. The person is being detained for investigation.

It is reported that the man reported that he worked as a courier.

From last year to this year, on his personal social platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter accounts, he continued to publish messages with inflammatory intentions, mentioning words such as "fighting for Hong Kong" and "black violence self-training", and Call on citizens who are dissatisfied with the epidemic prevention policy to resist, in an attempt to continue the illegal behavior.

It is reported that the wrong national anthem was played during the Asian Rugby Sevens held in Incheon, South Korea earlier. "Glory to Hong Kong" is a fragment, and the text is added by yourself, the general content is thanking for "recognizing the national anthem of Hong Kong".

Law enforcement officials believe that the release of the text has a sense of "Hong Kong independence" and is suspected of insulting the national anthem and violating the dignity of the country. It will trigger and incite other anti-government people to follow suit.

The police reminded the public that "acting with seditious intent" is a serious offense and the first conviction is punishable by two years' imprisonment.

Members of the public should not defy the law.
