From the 2023 edition, the Eurovision Song Contest will allow viewers from all over the world, and not only from the participating countries, to vote for their favorite songs, in accordance with the new rules announced this Tuesday by the organization, which seeks to increase the power of the audience in choosing the final winner.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has also announced that in the semifinals the jury of musical experts will be eliminated and the choice of the countries that go to the final will be the sole responsibility of the votes of the viewers.
In the final, the current mixed jury-spectator system will be maintained, in force since 2009, although the popular votes will no longer come only from participating countries (European nations, Israel, Australia) but from all over the world, according to the statement published by EBU.

"These changes recognize the immense popularity of the festival, the world's leading live music event, giving the audience more power," Eurovision executive supervisor Martin Osterdahl highlighted in the official note.
Spectators from the participating countries will be able to continue voting as before by SMS, telephone or in the festival application, while those from the rest of the world must do so through an internet platform, in which it will be necessary to use a credit card. , stressed EBU.
The mixed voting system has produced major final changes in the rankings in recent years, as happened in the 2022 edition, in which Ukraine, which had come fourth in the jury voting phase, ended up winning the festival for the massive support from viewers to the country.
The 2023 edition will not be held in Ukraine, however, due to the war in that country, and the host will be the second classified, the United Kingdom, which has chosen Liverpool as the venue for the event between May 9 and 13.
