The French and Australian national teams took to the grass at El Janov Stadium this evening (Tuesday) for a game as part of the opening round of Group D in the World Cup.
The Tricolors are effectively starting their title defense campaign, having lifted the trophy in 2018 at the end of a brilliant tournament, and will be hoping to avoid an embarrassment after seeing Argentina surprised by Saudi Arabia and Denmark drop points at home to Tunisia.
France arrived in Qatar without several key players and so Orléans Tshoumani, Adrien Rabiot and Olivier Giroud started the lineup with Angolo Kante, Paul Pogba and the injured Karim Benzema at home.
Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann and of course Kylian Mbappe complete with Giroud a very offensive line-up.
Australia, who advanced to the World Cup after a stubborn fight in the playoffs and a victory over Peru in penalties, did not win at all in the World Cups in 2014 and 2018, and if it happens tonight, it will be a resounding surprise.
Aziz Behich, the scorer of the own goal that gave France 1:2 in the meeting between the two four years ago, starts in her lineup.
