Again a few construction sites less: The work on the soccer field and on the grandstand at the TSV sports area in Oberammergau has been successfully completed.

A drop of bitterness remains anyway.

Oberammergau

- A black spot is emblazoned in the middle of the green playing field.

One thing is clear: it doesn't belong there.

Not at all.

Young people had made a fire on the hard court at the Oberammergau sports grounds, says Peter Pest.

Mind you, on the freshly renovated square.

"Unfortunately, we have not yet been able to locate the perpetrators," adds the building authority employee.

Now a specialist company is to repair the damage.

It is one of the ugly chapters in the extensive phased project.

Actually, the beauty treatment of the TSV system has been satisfactory so far.

The football field was newly coated and provided with markings.

In addition to the lines for football and basketball, there are now arrows et cetera for youth traffic education on the floor.

In the future, the bicycle training of the kindergartens and schools from the Ammertal will take place there.

The problem child, the fence, has now also been repaired.

It was bulged and torn out, there was a risk of injury.

That is now a thing of the past.

Albeit with a delay.

After all, the measure - it cost 40,000 euros - was last postponed - for the sake of the tight municipal coffers.

Lower costs than planned

In addition to the tartan track, which the municipality had already freed from its problem areas in 2021, the focus was now on the grandstand.

Spectators and athletes alike have been taking their seats there since October 3, 1988, ie for 34 years.

But the weather had taken its toll on the seating.

The wood – brittle, gray and old.

The brackets were rusting away, the cobblestones were loosening.

So: remove the wood, get a replacement.

Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that.

Pest suggested simply planing the "Kambala" wood.

The result was surprising: the wood looked like new again.

The expertise of the building authority employee contributed to the fact that the municipality was able to save money.

A little stroke of genius, so to speak.

Because they reckoned with 80,000 euros, the measure cost just half.

"Even the old brackets were sanded and re-galvanized so they could be reused," says Pest.

The last stone slab was laid after a good five weeks.

A new speaker booth has already been ordered.

The successor model is expected to take its place in the grandstand in the spring.
