Thanksgiving is four days away, and if you're like me, you've already prepared your lists: your shopping list, your Thanksgiving to-do list, your football game list, and your Thanksgiving to-do list. Qatar World Cup, and the list of 8 things you are NOT going to say at the Thanksgiving table.

Now, if you're one of the 54 million people traveling this week, you'll also need a travel to-do list.

Luckily, travel UP TO Thanksgiving seems to be mostly free of weather concerns.

But travel AFTER Thanksgiving could experience some time issues, especially in the East.

The storms could cause difficulties for the celebrations at the end of the week.

And if you're in Western New York, you'll probably hope you'll be able to hit the grocery store sometime after the record amounts of snow buried the area this weekend.

fuchsia, ice;

purple a mix of conditions and blue means snow.

The biggest weather headache heading into Thanksgiving will be in the Pacific Northwest, and I think it will have a bigger impact on those traveling by road than by air.

A cold front is expected to enter the Pacific Northwest on Tuesday.

"This will mark a return to area-wide rainfall," the Seattle office of the National Weather Service said.

"The rain is expected to start on the coast Tuesday morning and progress inland throughout the day."

Rain is forecast for much of western Washington and Oregon, with snow for the Cascades.

"The transition from rain to snow at both Stevens Pass and Snoqualmie Pass is anticipated to occur between late morning and early afternoon Tuesday," the weather service added, warning drivers who must check the conditions of the steps before starting their journey.

Wind gusts of up to 65 km/h are expected Tuesday night as the front passes.

Thanksgiving seems quiet in most of the country, except for parts of the South.

The showers are likely to affect places like Dallas, Houston, Shreveport and Little Rock.

"Showers will continue into Thanksgiving morning; however, they should end northwest to southeast as the cold front moves through the area, with the last of the rain moving out of central Texas in early to mid- afternoon," the Dallas weather service explained.

Showers will move into northwestern Louisiana and Arkansas later in the day.

With highs as low as 10°C, a gloomy day with cold rain will most likely prevail.

Temperatures for Thanksgiving will be in the 10-15°C range across much of the South, Central Plains and even in the Mid-Atlantic.

The north of the country will be between -1 °C and 4 °C.

In New York City a beautiful day is expected.

It will start cold, with lows between -1 and 4 °C, and temperatures will rise again to 10 °C in the afternoon.

There will be sunny skies and winds between 12 and 16 km/h, so the balloons will be able to fly high for the Macy's Thanksgiving parade.

Travel issues after Thanksgiving

Things get complicated after the “turkey day” festivities.

We are watching the development of a possible nor'easter later in the week and over the weekend as the Thanksgiving system moves east.

This system is likely to be strengthened and could cause some travel problems for return travelers, especially along the eastern seaboard.

The only caveat is that there is a LOT of uncertainty about how the forecast will play out later in the week.

A weather service office describes the forecast as "clear as mud," which I agree with, but we're going to make our best bet with the information we have as of this Monday.

Please note that this may change.

However, you may want to check back here throughout the week as the forecast develops.

Rain will begin to increase in the South Thursday night through Friday, with the heaviest rain in the Gulf Coast states.

By Friday, the rain will put a damper on travelers and outdoor plans for millions of people across the East, from Atlanta to Washington City and as far north as New York City.

Some forecast models hint that it could even become a "nor'easter" by Friday.

"Current forecasts continue to indicate that winter conditions have a better chance for the inland Northeast, while metropolitan areas along the I-95 corridor are more likely to receive rain," the Weather Prediction Center said. .

"But stay tuned for future forecasts, as these uncertain details, such as precipitation types in particular areas, could change as model guidance comes to a better consensus with roads and low temperatures," they added. meteorologists.

I think there's a good chance we'll see some significant travel delays across the East Coast later in the week and into the weekend.

So be prepared, especially if you are traveling by plane.

If you are traveling by car, check the forecast again before you hit the road to find the safest possible time to travel.
