The Canadian team was one of the intriguing stories ahead of the 2022 World Cup. The North Americans returned to the World Cup for the first time since 1986, and tonight (Wednesday), despite losing 1:0 to Belgium, they definitely proved that they belong.
John Hardman's team did not cancel against the Red Devils, on the contrary, they controlled the whole match and could leave very disappointed with the result.
The Belgians, on the other hand, should be satisfied with the points only and are very worried about a weak 90 minutes.
Somewhere in the 1986 World Cup, Canada failed to score in any of their three games, and in the 10th minute their big star Alphonso Davies got a chance to get a monkey off the back of an entire nation.
A penalty was whistled in favor of his team thanks to VAR intervention, but Thibaut Courtois, the world's goalkeeper of the year, saved the bad penalty from the Bayern Munich player.
The Canadian control continued, and two minutes later the team claimed another penalty.
Eden Hazard put the ball back, Canada took control and Jan Vertonghen committed a foul in the box.
Referee Jani Sikazawa, who is remembered for the farce of the final whistle in the 85th minute of the last African Championship, agreed with the lineman's wrong claim.

The naivety of the North Americans has not stopped, and as the cliché says, those who do not conquer absorb.
Michy Batshuayi, who got the credit in the wing in place of the injured Romelu Lukaku, needed only one chance to decide the match.
A wonderful deep ball by the veteran Toby Alderweireld found the striker, who kicked to the corner of Milan Burian and made it 0:1.
In the second half the tempo died down, the substitutes failed to change the picture, and in the end time just ran out for the Canadians.
The exciting return to the World Cup ended with a feeling of being missed.
Will they be able to leverage the ability to score their first ever goal and first points in the tournament?
