GAP - In a serious traffic accident in the morning hours of today, Wednesday, November 23, 2022, a 20-year-old man was injured so badly on federal highway 2 near Eschenlohe that he died at the scene of the accident despite immediate first aid.

For unknown reasons, the young man collided with an oncoming truck.

A large contingent of emergency and rescue workers worked for hours, leading to significant traffic disruptions.

The Weilheim traffic police took up the investigation into the course of the accident.

Today, Wednesday, November 23, 2022, in the morning hours, an accident happened on Bundesstr.

2, near the entrance to the BAB A 95, near Eschenlohe, a traffic accident in which a 20-year-old from Garmisch-Partenkirchen was fatally injured.

At around 5:45 a.m., the young man was driving north in a Mercedes A-Class car on the B 2, coming from Oberau.

Shortly before the start of the driveway to the A 95 motorway, for reasons that have not yet been clarified, he suddenly entered the opposite lane, where his vehicle collided with an oncoming truck (7.5 t) at that moment.

After about 100 m, the car came to a standstill on the roadway, while the truck ended up in the oncoming lane after the collision and finally came to a standstill at the left guard rail, at a slight angle.

First responders and the first rescue workers tried in vain to resuscitate the seriously injured car driver, who was alone in the vehicle.

The 44-year-old truck driver (from Fürstenfeldbruck), who was also alone in the vehicle, was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries by the rescue service.

In order to prevent the truck from tipping over - the Munich/Garmisch-Partenkirchen railway line is only a few meters away - it was secured by a fire truck using a rope.

In addition, the train route between Oberau and Eschenlohe was closed by the Deutsche Bahn emergency manager who was on site and a corresponding rail replacement service (with buses) was set up.

The investigations into the cause of the accident are being carried out by the Munich II Public Prosecutor's Office, in close cooperation with the Weilheim Traffic Police Inspectorate (VPI) responsible for the accident site.

For this purpose, among other things, an expert was consulted at the scene of the accident in order to be able to determine the exact cause of the accident.

In addition, a technical report is drawn up for the two no longer drivable vehicles that were seized.

Both vehicles were totaled about EUR 5,000 (car) and EUR 30,000 (truck).

In addition, ten crash barrier panels were damaged (damage of around EUR 3,500).

As part of the accident recording and to carry out the extensive rescue and towing measures as well as cleaning the road, extensive diversion and diversion measures were taken from the motorway junction (southbound) or from Oberau via the B 23 "Ettaler Berg" (Oberammergau or Bad Kohlgrub /Murnau) set up.

In addition, the Oberau Tunnel was closed in both directions.

In addition to numerous emergency services from the fire brigades from Oberau, Eschenlohe and Großweil and the Garmisch-Partenkirchen District Fire Inspectorate, there were also a number of rescue services on duty, in particular "helpers on site" from Oberau and Eschenlohe and the Murnau rescue service of the BRK, including an emergency doctor;

also the MKT Garmisch-Partenkirchen and several members of the operations management of the rescue service, including the crisis intervention service.

The traffic police in Weilheim, which was deployed with five crews at times, was supported by other patrols from the surrounding departments in Murnau, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald, as well as by a patrol from the Federal Police.

In the meantime, around 11:50 a.m., all closures and traffic measures have been lifted and the train route has been reopened to rail traffic.

Larger or longer traffic jams occurred, especially in the morning, when there was normal rush hour traffic.
