European Parliament approves the resolution to recognize Russia as a "state sponsor of terrorism".

The resolution, adopted by 494 votes to 58 with 44 abstentions, stresses that intentional attacks and atrocities by Russian forces, destruction of civilian infrastructure, and other gross violations of international and humanitarian law are acts of terror and war crimes .

The text passed with a large majority after the yes to some amendments to the resolution.

"Today the European Parliament is called once again to express itself on the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

The Socialists and Democrats presented their own resolution and did not subscribe to that of the centre-right groups as a text was proposed which in some passages puts the current investigation into Putin's war crimes at risk.

We have therefore presented amendments that we will vote on to correct these passages that we believe are wrong.

This is what the Pd delegation explains to the Eurochamber. "In Ukraine it is time to raise the tone of peace. The resolution that will be put to the vote today instead leads in the opposite direction. Our solidarity with the Ukrainian people is total and we consider Russia solely responsible for the ongoing war on the Ukrainian soil.

His army has also been guilty of atrocious crimes, however after more than nine months of open hostilities that have not spared the civilian populations, weapons must be silenced and diplomacy prevail".

This was underlined by the M5S delegation to the Eurochamber, explaining that it would not have the resolution that defines Russia as a terrorist state.

"It is no longer the time for confrontation.

The great absentee from the text of the resolution of the European Parliament is the word peace and for this reason, while sharing the paragraphs of support for Ukraine, we cannot support it. Our vote will be abstention Putin has culpably violated international law, but every effort must be made to reach a negotiation between the parties and put an end to this horrible war. Let's try," explained the delegation of the pentastellati in Strasbourg.
