In China, unprecedented revolt of “iPhone workers” against anti-Covid health rigor

STORY – The giant Foxconn factory with 200,000 employees, an Apple subcontractor, experienced riot scenes.


#Foxconn riots: The hashtag circulating on Chinese social media appears to have been censored.

But anger and protests are more present than ever in Zhengzhou, capital of Henan province in central China, where the Foxconn factory, the world's largest iPhone manufacturing site, is located.

Social networks Twitter and Weibo show a crowd of workers marching against people in white full body protective suits as well as riot police.

Videos are circulating showing a man with a bloody face, workers smashing CCTV cameras and windows, and images of tear gas.

The Taiwanese group Foxconn has confirmed the "

violence

" in its huge site in Zhengzhou.

The employees are demonstrating against their very degraded living conditions by the draconian measures adopted by the authorities as part of the fight against Covid-19.
