The annual concert of the Musikverein Zolling was a success.

Under the motto "Around the world", the wind orchestra, conducted by Markus Fichtner, knew how to inspire its audience.

Zolling

– captivating adults and children alike, the Musikverein and its wind orchestra managed this feat last weekend with a trip around the world that was as exciting as it was stylish and crossed genres.

The spectrum ranged from classic, rock and pop to Latin American and Arabic arrangements.

Fichtner and his forty-strong ensemble performed in the style of a big band.

One that has found its own sound and its very special form of expression.

The selection of the pieces testified to the high standards, but also to a feeling for what goes down well with a diverse audience.

The interactive character that was followed the day after the big gala performance of "Around the World" fitted well into the picture.

On Sunday afternoon it was the children's hour.

The approach of introducing them to the music in a playful way, encouraging them to participate and create, should work.

And it went like this: In front of the stage, on which the wind band had taken a stand, there was a suitcase with symbolic travel utensils with typical objects referring to the respective music.

Everything in the suitcase had a number, the counterparts of which were taped under the visitor seats.

Children and parents were asked to look for it.

The girls and boys who found what they were looking for were then allowed to hand over the numbers to Fichtner and take the relevant utensils out of their suitcases.

They proudly presented a stuffed animal giraffe.

It was number nine.

The number stood for the classic "Africa" by the rock band "Toto".

A hit from the 1980s.

Children determined what was played at the concert

"The children determine what we play," explained Michael Kraml shortly before the concert began.

But it wasn't enough to draw numbers and hold up utensils.

Fichtner, who led through the program in a charming and amusing way, encouraged the kids to take part.

In the case of "Toto" it was a kind of crash course in percussion.

The children were asked to "tap their thighs" to the rhythm of the song.

Afterwards, Fichtner noted quite impressed that there were already a few “rhythm talents” to be seen.

A good opportunity to advertise yourself - for a "Week of Open Lessons at the Musikverein Zolling".

Until November 25th, there will be an "instrument taster" at the elementary and middle school - with well-known music teachers on numerous instruments.

Including trumpet, harmonica and clarinet.

The rehearsal room in the youth center is intended for drum lessons.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Judging by the response in the community hall, the courses are likely to be very popular.

Because the children were there with great enthusiasm when it came to "steaming" through the rows in the style of the locomotive "Emma" from the Augsburger Puppenkiste.

The same applied to the flying carpet, to which the brass band intoned the title "Aladin".

The audience let the carpet fly by collectively raising their hands in the air and rotating their palms back and forth.

That was just one of the highlights of the one-hour children's performance at the 2022 annual concert.
