A federal judge ordered this Wednesday prison without bail for the alleged perpetrator of the shooting four days ago in the United States, Anderson Lee Aldrich, suspected of the attack against an LGBTQ club in Colorado, where five people died and more than 25 were injured
Aldrich, 22, appeared before Magistrate Charlotte Ankeny, of the 4th District Court, in El Paso County (Colorado), virtually from the prison where he is being held.
Before today's hearing, her defense filed a court document stating that her client identifies as a non-binary person who uses the neuter pronoun elle (they/them).
Aldrich appeared in a state of apparent torpor, his head tilted to the right, and
he answered the judge's questions almost inaudibly.
The authorities published this Wednesday his mugshot, where he appears with a bruised face.
As he fired into the crowd at the nightclub, several patrons stopped him and hit him with his own gun to stop the massacre.
Apart from denying the bail, the judge asked the prosecutors to share with the defense lawyers the data of the arrest warrant against Aldrich, on which the summary secrecy still weighs.
The charges against him are expected to be formally filed at the next hearing, set for
December 6.
U.S. Attorney Michael Allen said after Wednesday's session that he is scheduled to appear in person in court at the next session.
