In Mönchengladbach, a short circuit on a cannabis plantation caused a roof truss fire.

The police confiscated around 600 plants.

Mönchengladbach – How this fire must have smelled: On Tuesday morning, November 22nd, there was a fire in the roof trusses at the corner of Aachener Straße and Lindberghstraße in Mönchengladbach-Holt, as reported by 24RHEIN.

The reason for this was an illegal cannabis plantation that had previously been short-circuited.

"As part of the first measures at the scene of the fire, police officers entered a neighboring apartment building on Tuesday morning to bring people who might have been there to safety," the police said.

There was a risk that the fire would spread further, or that smoke gases could also have injured people in neighboring houses.

The police officers did not discover anyone in the house next door, but they did discover a professionally designed cannabis plantation that stretched over two floors.

The officers also found a cannabis plantation in the house in which there had been a fire after the extinguishing work was completed.

Together with a fire expert, fire investigators from the criminal police examined the scene of the fire more closely the following day.

They were able to determine that a technical defect in a power cable that supplied the cannabis plantation with energy had triggered the fire.

In total, the police seized over 600 cannabis plants in the two houses, the harvest of which would have yielded an estimated market value of 100,000 euros.

It is currently unclear who operated the cannabis plantations.

The police are investigating existing investigations.

The investigations into this are ongoing.

Police officers only discovered a huge plantation in Willich (NRW) in mid-November.
